Q:
Will any data be lost if I truncate a 24 bit file to 16 bits in MasterList CD after I apply a 16 bit dither to the 24 bit file in Pro Tools?
A:
No data will be lost when truncating a 24 bit file to 16 bits after a 16 bit dither has been applied. If you normalize with 16 bit dither enabled in a 24 bit session, you end up with a 24 bit file. But, the first 16 bits of this file describe your audio and the last 8 bits contain no audio data. If you then create a CD using MasterList CD, with dither preference DISABLED, only the 16 Most Significant Bits are written. The extra 8 bits that are truncated do not contain any data.
