Do you lose any functionality of the SMPTE Slave Driver (SSD) if you connect it via MIDI as opposed to the Mac Serial port? I want to interface it with my G4, but already am using the internal modem port.
 
A:
No. The SSD function is identical for either the 5-pin MIDI or the Mac serial ports. Only the physical jack is selected by the rear panel switch - the microprocessor has no idea which port its input data actually comes from.
