Q:
MOTU Issue: Synching Digital Performer or Performer to Rebirth 2.0 using FreeMIDI 1.4/OMS
A:
Digital Performer 2.7 users can user Rewire to sync Rebirth. Please refer to the "Synching Digital Performer with Rebirth, using Rewire" FAQ. Digital Performer 2.7 is a free upgrade to any registered 2.5 or 2.6 user. If you have a Digital Performer version previous to 2.7 you can follow these directions.
Using inter-application MIDI to synchronize Digital Performer and Rebirth in the past could be problematic. Now with OMS support, these problems no longer exist. Here's what to do: First make sure you have installed FreeMIDI 1.4 which has the ability to run under OMS. Make sure you have OMS vers 2.3.7 or later installed and enabled in your extensions manager. Also make sure you have configured a Studio Setup in OMS which displays the IAC driver. This can be custom installed from OMS if you do not see it in your setup. In FreeMIDI 1.4: If you have not configured FreeMIDI 1.4 to look for your OMS setup, launch FreeMIDI. FreeMIDI should ask you if you would like to choose OMS, do so. You can also choose this in the FreeMIDI preferences window which is located under the file menu. In Rebirth: a) From the Edit menu choose preferences. b) Set MIDI input from OMS to IAC bus. c) Check Sync to MIDI clock. e) From the Options menu, choose Sync to MIDI clock. In Performer: a) In the Basics menu choose Transmit sync. Set output to Applications IAC bus. b) Press play in Digital Performer. You should see/hear Rebirth running in the background. Keep in mind. It seems whenever you reset an input to rebirth, it disables the IAC bus. When you press play in DP and nothing is happening with Rebirth, check the transmit sync window for Sync out on the IAC bus. Using Audio Tap to record Rebirth into Digital Performer. Digital Performer 2.7 users should also refer to the Reqire FAQ. Open the Sound Control Panel (not Monitors and Sound). From the pulldown menu select Sound Out and choose the MAS option. From the same pulldown menu choose Volumes, and make sure that MAS and "Built-in" are not muted. If you create a Stereo Aux Track in Digital Performer you will be able to assign the track's input to Sound Manager Apps 1-2. This will allow you to monitor output ReBirth; you can also apply MAS effects and control it's level and pan settings from the Mixing Board window. If you create a Stereo Voice, you can set this track's input to Sound Mgr Apps 1-2. When this track is record-enabled you can record ReBirth directly into Digital Performer. Again, you can control this track's level and apply any MAS effect to ReBirth.
