Q:
"Pro Tools has unexpectedly quit because of an error type 1" when launching Pro Tools 5.1 by double clicking on a session document.
 
A:
This can happen if AV Option or AV Option XL is installed but not authorized on the system. Either authorize AV Option or remove the contents of the Video Engine folder inside the DAE folder , if AV Option hardware is not installed on the system.
