Q:
Why can't I import or work with a file in Pro Tools, it gives an error that it cannot be imported because it has more than 31 characters in Windows but other programs access it just fine?
A:
Pro Tools has a filename length limit of 31 characters, and this includes the extension and period inbetween, like .wav (4 characters), so in reality, the name itself cannot exceed 27 characters.
